Module II
The Network layer - design issues, routing algorithms - shortest path routing - flooding - flow based routing - distance vector routing - link state routing - hierarchical routing, congestion control algorithms, internetworking techniques, example of Network layer in the Internet and ATM networks. 

Module III
The Transport layer - design issues, services of the transport layer, protocols used in the transport layer -TCP/ UDP Internet transport layer protocols. Performance issues in Computer networks, The Application layer protocols, Network security issues and algorithms - Domain name concept- Network Management Protocol - Electronic mail - Architecture and Services Usenet news concept, the World Wide Web, Multimedia, Internet Service Providers in India, VSAT system.

Question Paper: -
The question paper will consist of two parts. Part I is to cover the entire syllabus, and carries 40 marks. This will contain 10 compulsory questions of 4 marks each. Part II is to cover 3 modules, and carries 60 marks. There will be 3 questions from each module (10 marks each) out of which 2 are to be answered.
